Hands-on with natural capital

Investing in nature is key to accelerating the UK’s journey to net zero.

For our Natural Capital Investment Director, Alex Godfrey, it perfectly combines his financial expertise, passion for impact, and practical conservation experience.

Alex’s commitment to this growing sector stretches back long before he began his role as at Octopus Investments, where several years ago his curiosity led him to working on alternative land use projects in the Bolivian Amazon, helping to implement sustainable business practices in Latin America.

By drawing on his experiences, Alex highlights natural capital’s potential and what inspired him to enter the sector in the UK, which is not only his home but also one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world.

“In my opinion, not only is natural capital the most exciting asset class there has ever been in finance – it’s also going to be the biggest problem for both the global north and south to tackle.”
