Octopus Capital has reached a major milestone, delivering its 1,000th affordable home through the Octopus Affordable Housing Strategy. The achievement coincides with the opening of The Pines in East Lothian, the firm's first affordable housing development in Scotland, extending its mission to provide high-quality, affordable homes across the UK.

Foundations are rethinking how their capital works. Beyond grant-making, investment strategies are increasingly being aligned with mission. Social infrastructure – from affordable housing to care – offers a way to deliver long-term returns while contributing to essential services. For endowments, it’s an approach that can bring purpose and portfolio closer together.

Invested through the Octopus Healthcare Strategy, the developments will provide 136 beds and support long-term, sustainable care provision, delivered in partnership with Abora Developments and operated by Avery Healthcare.

Octopus Capital has announced a partnership with Barratt Homes to deliver 110 affordable, energy‑efficient homes across Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Backed by long‑term investment from the Octopus Affordable Housing strategy, the developments will provide affordable rent and shared ownership homes, supporting local housing needs and helping address affordability pressures across East England communities.

At Carpenter’s Yard in Epping Forest, 113 homes are designed around a shared Zero Bills™ community microgrid. Powered by solar, heat pumps and battery storage, the development shows how living costs can be reduced without compromising quality.

Octopus Capital agrees a forward-funding deal with Bellway Homes, one of the UK’s largest housebuilders, to support the delivery of 128 affordable homes across three new-build developments in Kent and East Sussex.
